THE MASTER TAG

Each unit comes with a master tag. The master tag is used to register and de-register tags from the controller. The master tag is also used to generate an override code for the KLV1 & 2 vehicle systems.

The master tag should be kept in a safe place.

Phone Tag

20mm sticky back

The Phone Tag can be stuck to some mobile phones (depending on the battery position) or inside a wallet.

Watch Tag

12mm flat disc

The watch tag can be attached to the back of a leather or rubber watch strap. The tag also works on some metal watch straps depending on the density and composition of the metal.

This tag could also be attached to bracelets or sewn into wet suits for surfers or divers.

Valet Tag

The Valet Tags can be attached to the key ring for valet parking or servicing. It is not recommended to leave the tag permanently with the car keys. This is similar to leaving your password with your credit card.

Extra Tags

Available but not supplied with the unit

Credit Card shaped tags are available to go in a handbag or wallet

Implants

Tiny glass tags the size of a grain of rice may soon become available for implanting into the arm or hand. The FDA in America has approved these tags for human implants.

NB: Before sticking a tag permanently to items containing metal, register the tag to your system. Hold it in place and see if it reads and activates locks. If it does not work try a different position around the metal object. The tag will not work when stuck over the battery section of a mobile phone.

Finger prints and Bluetooth

Finger print activated bio fobs and Bluetooth activated receivers can be bought and connected to the controllers so finger prints and Bluetooth phone can be used to also activate the system

 THE CAR

Keyless Lifestyles has designed, and built in Australia, a unique combined access control and immobiliser system for vehicles.

The system is activated by RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags that come in

many forms and sizes (see the section on  ‘TAG’S).

These passive (no battery required) tags only have a very short range so their signals and codes are not able to be picked up by someone standing near to the car as the doors are being locked or unlocked.

If your tag is attached to your watch strap or bracelet or ring you can lock the car knowing that even if someone finds where you have left the keys (on the beach, on the desk, hidden inside the car, left on the hall table at home) they can’t just jump in and start the car till you return with your tag.

The unit in the car consists of two main parts – the reader and the controller.

The Reader

Reader

can be  fitted behind any non metallic part of the car.  The first reader is fitted behind the windscreen on the driver’s side.  When the tag is brought within close proximity to the reader a registered tag will activate the controller activating the door locks and immobiliser.

NB Additional readers are available that are particularly useful when fitted near the tail gates of station wagons or any others vehicle where rear or side access is used.

The controller

Is fitted under the dashboard or any other convenient area within the car. The KLV1 is configured to accept one to three readers with all performing the same functions.

The controller has an override code system so the car can be started if a tag is lost.

Operating modes

To be accepted by the insurance companies as an approved immobiliser, the KLV1 software features passive arming that is COMPLIANT to the Australian standard. This means that after the ignition is turned off the Keyless Lifestyles immobiliser built into the KLV1 will self arm after 30 seconds.  When returning to the car and unlocking the doors with the Keyless Lifestyles tag the immobiliser will remain disarmed for two minutes allowing time to load the car.  If the car has not been started within the two minutes the immobiliser will re arm and will have to be disarmed again with the Keyless Lifestyles tag before the car will start.

In this mode insurance companies can be requested to give a reduction in premiums under certain circumstances.

The KLV2 active arming software features a DUAL mode designed for situations where the vehicle is shared by two or more drivers and one or more drivers prefer to use the factory remote attached to their key ring which they are quite happy to carry around with them.

The drivers with a Keyless Lifestyles tag use their tag to lock and immobilise their vehicle (i.e. when they take the car to the beach.) they of course use their tag again when thy return to the car to unlock it and disarm the immobiliser. After they have finished using the vehicle instead of using the tag to re lock the car they use the key or factory supplied remote. The vehicle is ready for the other drivers who do not have a tag.

This non compliant mode may be more convenient for some users with factory fitted immobilisers in their vehicles that have already been accepted by insurance companies

The Home
The system used for the home is the same high quality system used in the car.
The Technical details are described in ‘THE CAR’ section.

You can use the same tag for both your home and your cars.
Keyless Lifestyles controllers can be integrated into most smart home automation systems.
The Unit for the home consists of two main parts – the reader and the controller.

The Reader   is fitted near the door that is to be opened.  The reader can either be fitted outside under a small cover or inside behind a glass or wood panel.

The controller is fitted inside.  The controller is plugged into a standard domestic power socket via a plug pack. The controller can activate an electric strike plate and or an electric dead lock. The software loaded into the controller determines the mode of operation.
These modes currently include a version that allows doors fitted with both an electric strike plate and an electric dead bolt or magnetic lock to fail SAFE (from the inside) and SECURE from the outside.
Future software version that can be downloaded to existing units could also include alarm functions and activating lights on entry.

F A Qs
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS

WHAT IS KEYLESS LIFESTYLES
Keyless Lifestyles is the only system in the world that allows the user to wear a miniature electronic tag to securely access their vehicles, home and workplace. There are two main components
The Tag and the controller. .

BUT THERE ARE LOTS OF KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS AROUND FOR CARS AND BUILDINGS
Each of the other systems uses their own unique tags or remotes for entry. If you have authorised access to say your home and a couple of vehicles you need three things to access them. Perhaps a couple of remotes for the cars and some keys for home. With Keyless Lifestyles you only need one tag, this will give you access to your cars and home.

HOW DO I START THE CARS IF I DON’T HAVE KEYS
Most cars today still use a key as the ignition switch.  Some cars have a remote you have to carry as well. With Keyless Lifestyles the traditional car key is still used as the ignition switch but will only operate as a switch once you have presented your tag. When you leave the car you can safely hide the key inside or outside the car. If the key is hidden inside the car and someone breaks in and find it they still can’t6 start the car till you come back with your tag.

I USE STATION WAGONS AND VANS FOR WORK – IT’’S A PAIN GOING ROUND TO THE READER ON THE WINDSCREEN
The system allows for up to 3 readers so you can have one on the windscreen and one at the tail gate. If you have a van with a side door you can have a reader there too

I HAVE A LOAD OF PEOPLE WORKING WITH ME THAT NEED ACCESS TO THE VEHICLES
You can register up to 30 tags on each vehicle or building.  There is no limit to the number of vehicles or buildings each tag can be registered to.

IT CAN’T BE SECURE IF YOU CAN MAKE EACH TAG ACCESS SO MANY THINGS
Each tag has an embedded 10 digit unique alpha/numeric ID. A controller will only accept tags that have been pre registered.  The owner can pre register and delete tags using the master tag with a unique ID for each system.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOOSE THE TAG
If you loose the tag while you are away from home then you can get the NRMA to let you into the car.  You can retrieve the key from where you hid it and then use your unique override code (which was generated by the master key when the controller was installed in your car.) to get the car started.  When you get home you can use the master key for the car to delete the tags from the car systems memory and then re enter the tags you still have and the replacement tag for the one you just lost.  Time spent around 10 minutes cost $11.
If you are also using the same tag for home, then use the master tag for the home system to delete the tags from the home systems memory then re enter the tags you still have and the replacement tag for the one you just lost.  Time spent around 10 minutes cost $0 as you are using the same replacement tag. .
Compare this with losing a bunch of keys. The cost to replace locks and a couple of car keys can be as much as $1,800.  It also takes time to organise and spend with the locksmith and at the car dealership.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOOSE THE MASTER TAG?
We then send out a technician to re programme the controller and supply you with a new master tag. Cost is around $110

CAN IT GET WET ?
The 12mm tag as used on the back of a watch strap or wrist band was taken down to 42m by Kevin from Dive In January 06 and works fine.

BUT I DON’T WEAR A WATCH
The miniature waterproof tags can also be attached to mobile phones.  There are other shapes of tags that go on key rings and in leg ropes for surfers

WHAT IF SOMEONE ELSE ALSO DRIVES THE CAR
You can either give them a tag or the controller in the car can be programmed ‘DUAL MODE’ to only activate the built in immobiliser when the car is locked with the tag.

WHY ARENT ALL THE CONTROLLERS PROGRAMMED LIKE THAT
Insurance companies will give car owners a reduction in premium if the immobiliser complies with Australian Standards. The standard states that immobilisers must be self arming.
That means the car is always immobilised when not being driven, it gives the driver 30 seconds to re start the car after the ignition has been switched off and 2 minutes from the time they unlock the car using the tag to the time they turn on the ignition. After those times they have to swipe the reader with the tag again.
Our controllers are programmed to comply with these standards so owners can apply for a premium reduction if this is the only form of immobilisation the car has.

BUT MY CAR HAS A FACTORY FITTED IMMOBILISER
You then have the choice of having the controller programmed in standard mode for self arming or in dual mode so it is only immobilised when locked with the tag.
If programmed in standard mode you also have the added protection that if someone has the keys they still don’t have the cart till you come back with the tag.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN ALARM ON MY CAR
If you have an alarm that self arms then the alarm may  activate when you open your car with your tag .
We have fitted some systems where we are able to turn off existing alarms when the tag is used., if this is not possible then you will have to turn off the alarm with your key or remote. The Keyless Lifestyle System  has a built in immobiliser so even if an un authorised person turned off the alarm the car would not start till the tag was used to de activate the system.

WHO INSTALLS THE SYSTEM  IN MY CAR
An accredited  Keyless Lifestyle Installer.
This will be a  person experienced in fitting immobilisers and/or other electrical accessories  in your  type of car.
If we don’t already have an accredited installer in your area we can find one through your local car dealership.

CAN YOU TRANSFER THE SYSTEM  FROM CAR TO CAR
YES – an installer would charge to un install the unit from the old car, supply a new wiring loom and LED  and then re wire the new car.

HOW MUCH DOES ALL THIS COST ?
Each  system costs $440 incl GST .+ installation  This includes the controller and tag reader that goes on the car or home, the LED to show you what the system is doing, three types of tag you can use for access and  the master tag.  The Master tag is the electronic equivalent of that massive key cutting machine you see at the shopping centre or locksmith. The Master Tag gives you the ability to delete keys and ‘cut’ new ones from replacement ‘blanks’

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY.
One Year
If there are technical problems they will usually show up either at the time of installation or within a few weekswithin the first few weeks.

HOW MUCH DOES INSTALLATION COST
For a car that already has central locking the installation cost is around $150. If the car does not have central locking this can be added for around another $150 or for around an extra $60 you could just have an activator fitted to the driver’s door.

THAT’S VERY EXPENSIVE – I CAN BUY AN IMMOBILISER AND ALARM FOR LESS THAN THAT.
Yes you can but all immobiliser and alarm systems rely on you carrying yet another device on your bunch of keys. More and more car thefts are now carried out by people taking your keys. They either break into your home and take them or see where you leave them at the office, in the gym, on the beach etc.  Once they have the keys it’s so easy to walk around pressing the remote till they see which car they belong to and then just drive away the car. The Keyless Lifestyle controller does for car security what the banking industry does for its security. The rule for banking security is not to put your user name and password in the same place. Other that with a Keyless Lifestyle system it’s acceptable practice to put the remotes and special electronic car keys all on the same bunch which people loose, mislay, put down, spend time looking for and have stolen. Once they have the keys they have the cars.
SO add the time and frustration you expend looking for keys in a year and the actual cash you spend if you loose them then a Keyless Lifestyle is a much less expensive way to go

THAT’S ALL VERY WELL FOR THE CAR BUT WHAT ABOUT THE HOUSE
The controller for the house is the same hardware as the car.  The software differs slightly according to how it is to be used.
In its simplest form the installer will supply you with what ever you don’t have to make the system work.  In the car you have central locking. If you have an electric lock already in the home then the system can be connected to that. If you don’t have an electric lock or strike plate then the installer will quote on what is required.  The cost varies according to the type of door, the type of lock and level of security.
In its most sophisticated form The Keyless Lifestyle system will allow you to comply with most insurance companies requirements of Dead Locking the home when you leave it unattended.  For most people this means having to think about double locking the doors each time you leave and then unlocking the dead bolt each time you return.
With the Keyless Lifestyle System Once touch of your wrist against the reader will pull back the dead bolt and activate the electric strike plate or lock at the same time.

FAIL SAFE OR SECURE
With most electric lock systems they either fail safe (so people can open the door in an emergency such as a fire) or secure ( so people are not able to open the door even when the power goes off)
With a Keyless Lifestyle system the locks can be wired so the dead bolt fails safe (so people can get out)t while the electric strike plate fails secure (so people are not able to enter just because the power goes off).

CAN THE SYTEM BE INSTALLED ON ALL HOUSES AND CARS
Some installations are more tricky and expensive to perform than others.
Older cars are easier to install than the newer models. Some fully imported prestige cars are almost impossible to fit.  The Dealers are able to help if the client /car owner is persuasive.  We installed a system on a Bentley because the Bentley owner did not want to lug about the huge, Swiss Army Knife size remote that Bentley provides.

LEAVING THE KEY IN THE CAR IS AGAINST THE LAW
The Key is not a key unless it is the secure means of starting the car. The recommendation is to hide the key in the car (ash tray, glove box, under the seat etc) rather than leaving the keys in the ignition which could attract car thieves to break the window.

LEAVING TE KEYS IN THE CAR WILL VOID THE INSURANCE
The NRMA letter attached makes it clear that he NRMA agree the risk of leaving the keys hidden in the car is less of a risk than leaving the keys in some other common places they are left i.e. on the desk at work, on the hall table at night, or on the tyre or under a towel at the beach.
The NRMA have tested and approved the Keyless Lifestyle Controller (Omnikey OMV1) and have recommended it for a lower premium .

I CAN’T AFFORD IT NOW
We can arrange a payment plan.
